Periprosthetic Hip Fracture Management

Complications

A 78-year-old woman who had a cemented total hip arthroplasty 10 years ago presents after a fall. She cannot bear weight and has a shortened, externally rotated leg. Radiographs show a spiral fracture around the femoral stem with the tip of the stem at the fracture site. There is apparent loosening of the cemented stem with radiolucent lines.
