A 58-year-old woman presents with pain under the second metatarsal head and deformity of the second toe. The toe is dorsiflexed at the MTP joint and flexed at the PIP joint with a painful corn dorsally over the PIP. The toe cannot be corrected passively. She also has hallux valgus. A "drawer test" at the second MTP joint shows significant dorsal translation. Regarding lesser toe deformities:
