A 28-year-old man presents after punching a wall. He has pain and swelling at the base of his right thumb. Radiographs show an oblique fracture at the base of the first metacarpal with a triangular volar-ulnar fragment remaining in place and proximal-radial displacement of the metacarpal shaft.
