Pain Syndromes
A 45-year-old woman presents 8 weeks after closed reduction and casting of a distal radius fracture. She reports severe burning pain in her hand that is disproportionate to the healing fracture. The hand is swollen, warm, and hypersensitive to light touch. She holds the hand in a protective posture and resists examination. Radiographs show patchy osteopenia.
