Thumb Ligament Injuries
A 28-year-old man presents after a skiing fall with his pole handle forcing his thumb into radial deviation. He has marked swelling and tenderness over the ulnar aspect of the thumb MCP joint. Stress testing with local anaesthesia shows 45 degrees of valgus laxity compared to 15 degrees on the contralateral side, with no firm endpoint. A palpable mass is felt proximal to the MCP joint.
