Pediatric Hip
A 6-week-old female infant born breech is brought for routine newborn screening. She is the first-born child and there is a family history of hip problems in the mother. On examination, there is a "clunk" felt when the left hip is gently abducted with anterior pressure on the greater trochanter. The hip can be fully abducted after the clunk. Ultrasound shows an alpha angle of 50 degrees and beta angle of 65 degrees with the femoral head 40% covered by the acetabulum. Regarding developmental dysplasia of the hip:
