Tendon Injuries
A 42-year-old recreational tennis player presents to the emergency department after feeling a sudden "pop" in the back of his ankle during a match. He describes feeling as if someone kicked him in the calf. He can bear weight with difficulty but cannot push off. Examination shows a palpable gap 4-6cm proximal to the calcaneal insertion and a positive Thompson (Simmonds) test.
