A 55-year-old woman presents with a 6-month history of lateral hip pain. The pain is worse when lying on the affected side and climbing stairs. She has gained weight over the past year and works at a desk job. Examination reveals tenderness over the greater trochanter, pain with resisted hip abduction, and a positive single-leg stance test with pelvic drop on the contralateral side.
