Knee Trauma
A 55-year-old diabetic male presents to the emergency department after slipping on ice and feeling a "pop" in his knee. He is unable to perform a straight leg raise. Examination reveals a palpable gap superior to the patella with the patella sitting in an abnormally low position (patella baja). MRI confirms complete rupture of the quadriceps tendon 1cm from the superior pole of the patella with 3cm of retraction. The injury occurred 3 days ago. Regarding extensor mechanism ruptures:
