Nerve Sheath Tumors
A 45-year-old woman presents with a 2-year history of a slowly enlarging mass in her posterior thigh. She reports occasional tingling radiating down to her foot when the mass is pressed. On examination, there is a 4cm mobile, firm mass in the posterior thigh that is positive for Tinel sign. MRI shows a well-circumscribed, fusiform mass arising eccentrically from a peripheral nerve with target sign on T2-weighted imaging. Biopsy reveals spindle cells arranged in two distinct patterns with nuclear palisading and Verocay bodies. The tumor cells are strongly positive for S-100 protein.
