- Thickening of the tendon sheath (tunnel the tendon slides through)
- Inflammation causing swelling of the flexor tendon
- Nodule or swelling on the tendon itself
- Repeated gripping or grasping activities
- Medical conditions like diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis

You may be at higher risk if:
- Diabetes (30% of diabetics develop trigger finger)
